GPS systems have made our lives easier when it comes to navigating the country. I remember the days of having a map and plotting out the road trip. Trying to make sure you didn't miss an exit or turn. I'm glad those days are over. Some of you may have a built in GPS in your car/truck or a portable unit you can move from vehicle to vehicle. A great of feature your GPS unit is the Home button. Simply hit the button and regardless of where you are it will instantly navigate you to your house.
For your security I recommend only putting an intersection or business close to your house as your home address. At some point we all have to take our automobiles in for maintenance. I'm confident most businesses are trustworthy and creditable, but there is a bad seed in every bunch. So there is no reason to let the shop technician no exactly where you live. (Low Tech Tip- Never give your house keys either. Buy a detachable key chain that separates your car keys from the house keys with the push of a button) Click picture for more info
If you have a portable GPS unit always put it away when you park your vehicle. Portable GPS units were 4th on the FBI most stolen electronics list in 2008. Leaving it in your window is an invitation to thieves to steal your device, and if it's stolen the crooks now have you home address. GPS units have made our lives easier, but with any technology advance security must always be kept in mind. Is this something you were already conscious of? Please leave your feedback and let me know.

Wow. I never thought that such devices can be used by evil-doers to track your house and target something bigger than just snatching your car’s GPS.
This is a great advice and for safety pre-caution, people needs to be informed. Nothing beats being extra careful for your own and your family’s welfare.
Kudos Alvin!

Not to mention I’ve seen a few stories where woman got raped because a guy at the auto repair shop copied there house keys. Another good reason not to hand the whole thing out.

Most criminals just aren’t that dedicated, and I know a lot of crooks. Think about it…is a crook really going to hork your GPS, then go to the trouble of going all the way to your house on the chance you have some easily sale-able items laying around, and that you’re not armed, not home at the time, or don’t have a Rottweiler? Nope. Too much work with no guarantee of payoff. They’ll just take the GPS and go to the next car and the next and fence the stolen items. This is just FUD. (fear, uncertainty and doubt)
There *are* cases where things of this nature occurred, but in each case, there were extenuating circumstances. In once case, a car was broken into, and keys to a Porsche were inside. This told the crooks that a drive to the GPS “home” location might actually be worth it, and ended up stealing both cars.

This is true, but I believe in the old boy scout motto of being prepared. I can’t hope that a dumb crook may break into my car. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Thanks for your comment Bill. Hope to see you back again.
